Erie Futbol Club Staff

Jim Toth Jim Toth Jr.
Founder/Owner/Club Director

Jim Toth Jr. brings over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, instructor and manager to his members at the Erie Futbol Club. Jim was a standout striker for a Dutch Futbol Academy where he would spend summers during high school playing internationally in Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria, and Italy. He was also recognized and presented with two separate offers to play for top level clubs in Munich while attending school. Persistent knee and ankle injuries cut Jims playing career short and he chose to retire as a competitive player.

Jim began coaching in 2000 for surrounding travel and youth organizations. Since then he has dedicated himself to the growth and development of Erie Futbol Club and its players. In addition to his club responsibilities, he is also the current Director of Coaching for the Amherst Youth Soccer Organization, serves as the Assistant Coach to the Fairview Girls Varsity Program and is the General Manager of Gameday Sports Center in Oberlin. Jim is also a professional fitness trainer and owner of Erie Elite Fitness and Quick Feet Soccer Academy. Two organizations he recently founded to focus on fitness, foot skills, ball control, attacking skills, and the importance of first touch.

He currently holds a USSF National D license and NSCAA Regional/National coaching diplomas. Jim is also an active member and supporter of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Jim enjoys fishing, golf and spending time with family. He resides in Avon Ohio with his wife Jill.

Scott Underwood Scott Underwood
Girls Director Of Coaching

I have been coaching exclusively female soccer players since Summer 2001 when my daughter started playing. I quickly learned that female athletes are very different from their male counterparts and diligently researched the philosophical approaches of the most successful coaches of female athletes. I have learned, sometimes painfully, that to make successful female soccer players the coach must develop the whole person, not just the player. The female player finds intrinsic rewards in the relationships she develops through the game, not in the game itself.

I earned my USSF National C License in 2004.

I have been coaching female soccer players at the travel, premier and high school levels for over 10 years. I began my high school career in 2002 with Bay High School under the guidance of Gale Fisk, one of the most successful high school girls coaches ever. We won the Division II State Championship that year with a 19-2-2 record. From there I developed a program at St. Augustine Academy in Lakewood for two years until that school closed. After that closing in 2004, I returned to Bay as JV/player development coach. I held that position for two years until I took the head coach position at Fairview High School, which I currently hold.

I began my premier coaching career with Erie FC in 2004. I left for a short period and am now returning as I find the atmosphere and philosophical approach at Erie to be much more conducive to the successful development of female soccer players.

I have been playing soccer at various levels for over 40 years. I played travel in the 1970s in its infancy in Rocky River. I started playing premier in 1980 for the Cincinnati Thorians coached by Fred Ponder, a Dutch national from the 1950s-1960s teams. This team traveled the country and played top level teams from around the world.

I also played for one year at Hiram college, 9 years in the US Army and two years for FC Schweinberg in the Federal Republic of Germany (1988-1990) while stationed there.

I firmly believe that we are here to develop players, not to fill someone’s trophy case. Wins will come as a byproduct of doing the right things. I prefer to develop the whole player from the bottom up- technically, tactically and psychology. I try to provide a challenging yet fun environment that stimulates growth, creativity, competition and positive emotional health.

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. I began playing soccer at the age of 5. I played varsity soccer at Southwest High School in St. Louis. My senior year I was offered soccer scholarships to McKendree University, Benedictine University and Rockhurst University. I declined those offers to accept an art scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis. I worked with the St. Louis Diabetic Association for 10 years as a camp counselor. During that time I gained great experience in teaching and motivating young people.
